Song of the Mountains

Song of the Mountains

Acrylic on Canvas
11" X 21" mounted
Price: $85
INQUIRE ABOUT THIS PIECE

Inspired by: John Denver’s song, "Cowboy’s Delight"
Sing songs of the sunrise into the night
The stars as your timepiece make it alright.
Make friends with the darkness, talk to the moon
And when the light lifts, you can let out a tune.
I've been to the mountains, climbed through the sky
Shouldered their whiteness, watched their gold fly.
Shared in their treasures, shook at their might.
Spoke softly of wonders, cowboy’s delight.

Nature’s Hardest Hue

Nature’s Hardest Hue

Acrylic on Canvas

Price: $55
INQUIRE ABOUT THIS PIECE

Inspired by: Robert Frost’s poem, "Nothing Gold Can Stay"
Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn becomes the day.
Nothing gold can stay.

Wrinkled Wisdom

Wrinkled Wisdom

INQUIRE ABOUT THIS PIECE

This piece was created while living in Flagstaff, Arizona near the Navajo reservations. A Navajo friend of mine was playing an original song on his flute; a haunting tune as ageless as the mountains themselves. My painting represents the deep respect the Native Americans have for their land and the knowledge they pass on to younger generations through their ancient stories. I hope the next time you have a chance to sit down with one of your elders, you will see past the wrinkles and listen to the wisdom beneath.

This painting was inspired from a photograph of myself with one of my cousins. I cannot recall what I whispered in her ear, but I am sure it was imaginative and fantastical. I hope this piece evokes fond memories of your own childhood and inspires you to rediscover the creativity you had in your youth.

I have learned quite a few things from my canine companions throughout the years. One of the most inspiring to me is their unquenchable thirst for adventure. Watching them enjoy their surroundings, no matter how seemingly barren and unforgiving, motivates me to look for the positive in any situation. This piece captures the bliss of being a dog in a frozen tundra of endless possibilities and reminds us to live joyfully as well.

This painting depicts a mother lovingly holding her newborn child. Her hair flows around the baby, encircling it in her love and protection. The womb-like orb around her represents the feeling of comfort and security a child feels while in a mother’s presence.

Inspired by: A poem I wrote, "Truth", derived from my experiences in the wilderness.
Think of someone stepping into the grove.
For a moment forgetting the festering city smoke.
Think of her as untouched, indivisible.

Nothing Runs Like a Reindeer

Nothing Runs Like a Reindeer

Acrylic on Canvas
11" X 14"
Price: SOLD

This painting is a sneak peek into "a night in the life" of Santa's reindeer. It was created one night as I watched the snow gently float to the ground, and I began to wonder how the reindeer passed their time the rest of the year. I believe they roam the white wilderness of the North Pole and soar across the starlit skies at leisure in order to prepare for their big night. When you look at this painting, may you believe too.

Like numerous little girls, I always dreamed of being a ballet dancer when I was young. I even took lessons for a short while, but while some are born to dance… others are born clumsy. So I use paint to convey that same feeling of poise and delicacy. This piece shows the elegance of the dancer, even when she is not moving at all.

I often wonder what it would be like to live on a secluded tropical island. Never having to fight the traffic on the way to work, never having to paste on a fake smile for rude customers, never having to listen to the screaming of someone else’s children. This painting evokes the calm and serenity of the start of a work week in paradise.

Natural World: In the Tropics

Natural World: In the Tropics

Oils on Canvas
24" X 48"
Price: SOLD

This painting was inspired by the Blackfoot saying: “There are many paths to a meaningful sense of the natural world.”

In order for people to want to save our natural habitats, they must develop a personal connection with that land. Some relax on sandy beaches, while some enjoy skiing down a pristine mountainside. Others prefer watching a desert sunset or a hike through the whispering pines. Whatever your preference, this series is meant to inspire you to get out and make your connection with nature.

This painting is an attempt to bring beauty to the things which we consider ugly. The delicacy of the tiny white flowers against the harshness of the barbed wire also help soften the negative image we have of animals such as the intelligent and graceful raven. When you look at this piece, I hope you are inspired to discover something beautiful in the unexpected.

This painting was inspired from a photograph of my brother cooling off by a mountain stream, somewhere in the Arizona wilderness. It represents my many trips into the forest. The anticipation of the cold water after a long hot hike, and the rejuvenation I feel afterwards. I hope this piece brings serenity to your home, just as my mountains do for me.

This painting is an attempt to bring beauty to the things which we consider ugly. The softness the canine shows as he tenderly sniffs the delicate dandelions makes us question the negative image we have of animals such as the intelligent and resourceful coyote. When you look at this piece, I hope you are inspired to discover something beautiful in the unexpected.

ASSimilation

ASSimilation

Collage/Acrylic on Canvas
17" x 20" Framed

INQUIRE ABOUT THIS PIECE

This collage represents the rapid destruction of all that is natural on the earth cleverly disguised as progress. We justify the leveling of forests or the extinction of species as advances in technology. As the wilderness is continually consumed by our cities, I often wonder how far we will advance before we realize that even the most complex inventions cannot restore the beauty of Mother Nature’s masterpiece.

This sculpture tells the sad story of "Mother Earth". Her brow is furrowed and her lips slightly parted in astonishment at the state of her world. With one hand she clutches her stone necklace, which symbolizes our dwindling natural resources. Her other hand is clenched around her flowing green robes, which represent our remaining wilderness.

This piece captures the moment after this pup received his first bath. He looks up at the viewer, still in shock from his recent experience, accusing him/her of their involvement in the conspiracy. The use of white clay emphasizes the innocence of the young canine and causes the main focus to remain on his eyes.
